  • JobSTART has been completed detailing all Underground hazards, with suitable control measures in place?

  • Is a valid permit (Permit to Dig) in place for the work being performed?

  • Is there a ‘Dial Before You Dig’ drawing showing the location of underground services?

  • Has a site survey been carried out to identify surface indicators of utilities, for example light posts, valve pits, pit covers?

  • Have suitable cable and pipe locating devices been used to confirm position of the utilities (remember these devices can’t detect plastic pipes)?

  • Has ongoing verification of services been undertaken through test holes or similar?

  • Have underground services been marked on the surface with cones, paint, signs or similar?

  • Is a Spotter in place when penetrating ground around underground utilities?

  • Positive radio communication is available between spotter and plant operator?

  • Are all workers kept clear of the plant while stabilising, drilling or digging work is conducted in the vicinity of utilities?

  • Are exposed services adequately supported/protected?
