Monthly Checks

-
Perform a link test. Print result to test the printer.

-
Use self test function. Check paper in printer.

GMDSS VHF Handheld Radios
-
Check unit for overall damage. Comms test on any channel other than CH16 (CH15/17). Check spare battery expiry dates: Oct/2023.

AIS SARTs
-
Visual inspection monthly. Conduct self test every six months.

On AIS unit select 'Maintenance', 'Installation Test', switch AIS test mode to 'enabled', press test button on the SART and stand on the foredeck area until you see three long flashes of the light on the unit.

Check that two test messages have been received on the AIS unit. Test second SART using the same method.

Switch AIS test mode back to disabled.
-
EPIRB
-
Test function within the first five minutes of the hour.
-
Check overall condition of the unit and check that the bracket is not damaged.

AIS (ECDIS)
-
Check that vessel input information is correct.
-
Send out a test message and wait for a reply.
-
Once all monthly checks have been completed, make a detailed entry in the GMDSS log book including any deficiencies.
