Verification Criteria

Verification Requirements

 • 1. Check that hazardous liquids >1000L stored aboveground are located away from sensitive areas (e.g. waterways, ecologically endangered areas, places of cultural heritage significance).
b) all aspects required to be implemented have been implemented prior to commencing work

 • 2. Check there is a sufficient asset protection zone surrounding the bulk storage of hazardous liquids and there are adequate barriers installed to protect the tank from rupturing from plant / equipment interaction

 • 3. Ensure hazardous liquids >1000L stored aboveground have a secondary containment device such as a double walled tank or bund.
Verify the secondary containment device is constructed of impervious materials, holds 25% of the total volume stored or 110% (120% SA) of the largest container (or interconnected system), whichever is the larger, the capacity of the bund is maintained at all times, the storage tank is back from the bund wall (or shielded) to prevent jetting of the liquid outside the bund.

b) their specific markings
c) their limits of clearance
d) why the area is protected
• 4. Verify an emergency plan for spill recovery exists for the site and it has been adequately communicated to employees. Ensure spill response material is available for immediate use if required.

 • 5. Verify there are site records to confirm underground tanks have a double wall, the site has a system for detecting and monitoring leaks, groundwater monitoring wells are located in sensitive locations and there is a program to test them.

 • 6. Ensure the operator is licenced and has a 3rd party issued verification of competency (VOC) for trailer combinations and liquid transport.
