EXIT DOORS

The purpose of and exit door is to provide safe exit from a building with MINMUM EFFORT AND DELAY. The openings must be clear from furniture, stowed goods or other obstructions

The doors must be able to be opened internally without a key, from the side facing a person seeking their way out, by a single-handed downward or pushing action on a single device located between 900 mm and 1.2 m from the floor.

To be checked quarterly by occupants

PATHS OF TRAVEL TO EXITS

Paths of travel are the main paths taken by occupants to reach any of the external exit doors on the building. These paths of travel are to remain unobstructed for occupants travelling to an exit.

The purpose of emergency lighting is to safeguard occupants from injury by providing sufficient lighting to allow safe occupant evacuation in an emergency

Smoke alarms are installed either singly or in an interconnected circuit, to detect and provide an early warning of the presence of fire.
