Hatch Team Leader

  • Check cargo for POD, is consistent with the loading plan/pre-start instructions

  • Ensure all hazards and route are marked and continuously updated within the working hatch

  • Ensure all Parkers/Pointers are following SMS - Safely move with Signal

  • Appropriate procedure for signalling complied with, SMS followed i.e. clear hand signalling

  • Assess and appoint additional signalman if required

  • Ensure Parkers/Pointers follow procedures and optimise safe and efficient temporary stow

  • Control the flow of taxis and temporary stow vehicles within the working hatch

  • Varying number of Parkers/Lashers where practicable to achieve cycle matching & efficiency

  • Plan ahead to clear bottlenecks and prepare for changes

  • Procedures for Parking on slopes complied with

  • All service vehicles to be parked as to not impede the operations

Route Team Leader

  • Assist shift manager in explanation of traffic management plan as required

  • Plan and prepared a safe and effective route onboard and in the yard

  • Correct effective signage in place

  • Mark off "No Go Areas"

  • All potential hazards well marked utilising tape and traffic cones

  • Ensure lashers are working within the procedures i.e. keeping 3 car spaces clear of the immediate loading point

  • Monitor and correct lashing deficiencies with those directly involved.

  • Ensure lashing standards are complied with i.e. arthwartships/other special requirements

  • Is the lashing sign off procedure being adhered to

  • Use all available safety cones & signage

  • Correct placement of safety poles

  • Correct placement of traffic cones to mark turning radius, GT/WT doors and ramps

  • Monitor critical points on route for correct speed and spacing

  • Continuously monitor and update the route and hazard markings throughout the operations.

Checker Team Leader

  • Maintaining a safe position at all times - not in the "Line of Fire"

  • Lashers are working within the procedures i.e. keeping 3 car spaces and or well clear of the immediate loading point

  • Checker is aligning cargo correctly once in stow

  • Actively checking the vehicle has been parked off as per procedures i.e. windows up, 1st / park gear, park brake applied, etc.

  • Assisting in Hatch Control as required

  • Procedures for parking on slope ways complied with

Parker/Pointer

  • Ensure drivers side window is open until vehicle is placed in final stow position - subject to prevailing conditions i.e. rain

  • Check Parker/Pointers are positioned on deck as to efficiently and safely receive cargo

  • Assist Hatch Team Leader with "Hatch Control" and formation of temporary parking area on deck

  • Never reverse without being signalled

  • Provide clear hand signals when providing guidance

  • Avoid sudden acceleration, braking and rough handling

  • Maintain adequate distance between cargo when directing shifting drivers into Temporary parking area.

  • Control the flow of taxis as required

Lashers

  • Lashers are working within the procedures

  • Maintain a safe position at all times i.e. not in the "Line of Fire"

  • Lashing materials being correctly handled i.e. safely handled and below bumper height

  • Lashing standards are adhered to i.e. angles, attachment to cargo/deck side and tension, not twisted etc.

  • Discarded lashing materials are cleared away as per the progression of cargo work

  • Designated person assigned to hand out the lashing materials is working to procedures

  • No instances of missing lashings

  • Wheel lashing standards achieved i.e. use of rags and strops

Drivers

  • Turn on headlights until arriving at the loading point/deck

  • Ensure the window is open at the drivers side, subject to weather conditions

  • Follow signalman in the hatch to position vehicle into temporary parking area

  • Keep position in convey

  • Last car in an established convey to display hazard lights

  • Avoid sudden acceleration, braking and rough handling

  • Maintain speed limit of 20 KM/H max onboard and comply with the site speed limit

  • Maintain a minimum of 3 car lengths whilst driving

  • Reduce speed at the ships service ramp, inner slope ways and corners

  • One vehicle on the slope ways at any one time (except express slope ways)

  • Reduce speed whilst passing GT/WT doors

  • Use only designated route from yard staging area to loading point

  • No crossing and no overtaking

  • Reduce speed and ensure to adhere to directions from hatch team

  • Ensure ignition & Head lights off, gear in required position, wheels straight/positioned accordingly, drivers side window open- key not removed from ignition

  • Take directions from the clerk before entering cargo in the yard

  • Perform 1 round check to confirm cargo condition prior to entering the vehicle in the yard

  • Drivers moving from the staging area only on signal from clerk/person

  • No missing runs

Taxi Driver

  • Ensure dummy run is carried out prior to any load

  • Ensure taxi doors remain closed while in motion

  • One taxi to driver the last position in convey

  • Drive along designated route only

  • Ensure minimum distance from any cargo 3 vehicle widths (if not practicable ensure guidance availble)

  • Follow the directions of the hatch team when when arriving on deck/loading point

  • Do not alight/retrieve drivers on ramps

  • Keep clear of the loading point and temporary parking areas

  • Maintain a safe distance from cargo when stopping in the yard staging area

  • Drive to comply with speed limits both on board the vessel and within the yard

  • Headlights and hazard lights on at all times

Clerk

  • Check and identify that both the yard location and cargo is correct with the yard plan

  • Perform visual check of cargo to confirm mark and deficiency free

  • Maintain up to date loading tally

  • Direct the drivers from the staging area and control vehicle traffic from other Port users

  • Ensure a cone is correctly positioned and then updated at the end (roadway) of each row

  • Open divers side door consistent to the number of drivers, subject to favourable weather conditions

  • Only open doors into clear space

  • Do not move cargo without consultation with the shift manager. Follow SMS

  • Operational vehicle is safely parked clear of the staging area

Signal person

  • Providing clear hand signals

  • Positioned correctly and working to achieve maximum efficiency

  • Adequate equipment utilised i.e. sign, 2 way radio

  • working within a safe position keeping clear of the direct traffic path
