Quad Bikes

  • Is the Quad Bike in good condition and serviced regularly? (E.g. Is it clean or dirty, is it serviced by an approved service agent).

  • Are there Ag Helmets available for all bikes / riders? (Are they within the issue date, are they in god condition).

  • Are the Helmets worn by bike riders? (View riders wearing helmets).

Two Wheel Bikes

  • Are the Two Wheel Bikes Registered? (There should be a current Farm Registration on the bike if it goes on a public road).

  • Are the Two Wheel Bikes in good condition and serviced regularly? (E.g. Is it clean or dirty, is it serviced by an approved service agent).

  • Are there Helmets available for all bikes / riders? (Are they within the issue date, are they in god condition).

  • Are the Helmets worn by bike riders? (View riders wearing helmets).

Tractor Safety

  • Is the tractor(s) Registered / Licensed? (Should be G for General Purpose and if used on a public road).

  • Does it have a current number plate?

  • Does it have a beacon fitted? (This should be fitted for travelling on the public road in low light conditions).

  • Does the tractor have hazard panels fitted? (If it is more than 2.5m wide - usually with duals fitted, and travels on the public road).

  • Do drivers of the tractor have a class 1 License (if they travel at less than 30km on the public road).

  • Are any implements towed on a public road that are more than 3.1m wide? (e.g. Wide silage wagons).

  • If implements are towed on the public road that are greater than 3.1m wide, are they fitted with an "OVERSIZE' sign front and rear?

  • Does the PTO have a safety guard?

  • Are all tractors clean, in good condition and serviced regularly? (E.g. Is it serviced by an approved agent on a regular basis, has it got mud or straw in the motor, is there a lot of leaking oil or grease, is it dirty, is the cab full of dirt).

  • Is the tractor fitted with a Fire Extinguisher? (This should be a minimum of a 2.5kg Dry Powder and must have a current Test Tag showing a test within the last 12 months, is it fitted or rolling loose).

  • Is there evidence the seat belt is worn? (Required when working on steep country, or when there is a risk of roll over or sudden stopping).

General Vehicle Safety

  • Are all vehicles that travel on the public road currently registered? (E.g. Farm Utes, Trucks, Trailers, Cars).

  • Do all vehicles that travel on the public road have a current Warrant of Fitness or WoF? (E.g. Farm Utes, Trucks, Trailers, Cars).

  • Do drivers of vehicles have appropriate licenses? (E.g. HT, Car, etc)

  • Are all vehicles clean, in good condition and serviced regularly? (E.g. Is it serviced by an approved agent on a regular basis, has it got mud or straw in the motor, is there a lot of leaking oil or grease, is it dirty, is the cab full of dirt).

General Farm Machinery and Equipment

  • Do PTO operated equipment / implements have PTO shaft covers? (E.g. Telescopic plastic sleeve)

  • Are guards fitted? (E.g. Guards protecting belts, cogs, pullys).

  • Is the equipment clean and in good condition? (E.g. not full of mud, clean, grease points greased, blades in good condition, etc)

  • Are hydraulics in good condition? (E.g. No leaking oil, O-rings are ok, hoses are in good condition)

  • Is the chainsaw in good condition?

  • Is there PPE available for the Chainsaw? (Helmet, hearing protection, face protection and chaps).

  • Are personnel trained in the equipment / implement's use? (Check training record, question manager and employees)

Farm Buildings

  • Are the farm buildings in good condition? (E.g. Milk shed, implement shed, chemical storage)

  • Is the rotary table guarded?

  • Is electrical equipment (e.g. pumps, chiller units) plugged into the mains electrically tested and does it have a current tag?

Safety Signage

  • Is there any safety signage on public entries to the property? (E.g. No Unauthorised Access, Report to...)

  • Is there any Safety Signage to high risk areas? (E.g. Milking shed, Work Shop, Chemical Storage)

Hazardous Substances Including Pesticides

  • Is there a current and completed Hazardous Substance Register? (This should be in the office of the shed)

  • Do all current chemicals have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS)? (These should be easily accessible by staff and less than 5 years old)

  • Is there a current approved handler on site? (View card or certificate)

  • Are chemicals stored safely? (Look for bunding, correct spacing, labelled containers)

  • Is the correct PPE available and used? (E.g. Gumboots, waterproof apron, splash proof googles, face shield, vinyl gloves, respirator)

  • Is there an eye wash station? (Pump bottle with eye fitting is ok).

  • Is there adequate signage at entry points to the chemical storage area? (E.g. Warning, Ag Chemical sign, PPE Required, restricted area).

Electrical Safety

  • Is there a working emergency stop in place on the rotary table? (E.g. pull cord, push button)

  • Are there Lock Out / Isolation procedures in place? (Check main switchboard, should be in place for accessing under / in Rotary Tables, chillers by vats, etc)

  • Are all power leads tested and do they have a current Test Tag?

Fire Prevention and First Aid

  • Are there Fire Extinguishers in high risk areas? Milk Shed, Work Shop, Tractors, Houses, Ute)

  • Is the correct signage erected for the type of Fire Extinguisher in place?

  • Have the Fire Extinguishers been tested / checked in the last 12 months? (There should be a yellow test tag attached)

  • Are there First Aid Kits in high risk areas? (Milk Shed, Work Shop, Houses, Ute)

  • Are the First Aid Kits up-to-date and checked regularly? (Check contents)

  • Are the First Aid Kits clean and tidy? (No straw or bird feaces on them, no bloody material in them)

  • Is ther signage indicating the First Aid Kit's location? (Green sign with white cross)

Animal Handling Facilities

  • Are there stock yards? (Cattle Yards)

  • Are the stock yards (including yards at the Milk Shed) in good condition? (E.g. Nails sticking out, loose boards or poles)

  • Are they well drained? (E.g. Concrete slab, no mud, water drains away)

Effluent Pond

  • Is the effluent pond near any buildings or easily accessible to the public? (E.g. near a house, shed, school).

  • Is the pond fenced to prevent children accessing the water?

  • Is the stone trap fenced to prevent children accessing the water?

  • Are the fences in good condition? (Strong posts, wire tight, gates well hung)

  • Is work carried out around the edge of the pond?

  • If yes, is a risk assessment carried out before starting work?

  • Can personnel escape if they fall in? (E.g. safety line or ladder in the corner)

  • If accessing a pump in the middle of the pond, are there safety procedures in place? (E.g. Is the pump secure? Is there a safe way to access the pump? Is the pump isolated when work is carried out?

Farmyards, Paddocks, Lanes and Underpasses

  • Are the lanes in good condition? (e.g. Well drained, hard surface, lack of mud)

  • Are the paddocks free of old wire, posts, wind fall or other debrie?

  • Are the bridges in good condition? (Solid surface, side rails where there is a drop of more than 1m)

  • Have any bridges been certified by an engineer? (If yes, to what weight?)

  • Is there an underpass on the property?

  • Are there any sink holes? (Are they marked on the farm map? Are they fenced off?)

Public Roads

  • Are cattle moved on the public road? (Does it impact on traffic?)

  • Is there any Stock Movement warnings available and used? (E.g. Approved road sign, flashing light, pilot vehicles front and back)

  • Is there an underpass? (Is there a need for one?)

  • Do farm personnel drive safely on the road (E.g. Wear helmets on bikes, keep to the speed limit, drive to the conditions)

Confined Space Entry / Working at Heights

  • Is work carried out at a height where a fall can cause injury? (E.g. From the top of a Milk Vat)

  • Is there a safe working at heights procedure in place?

  • Is work carried out in Confined Spaces? (E.g. in a Milk Vat)

  • Is there a confined space entry procedure in place? (E.g. Safety line, ventilation, safety stand over)

  • Is there a Work Permit System in place? (One where employees or contractors working on high risk activities apply for a permit from the Farm Manager or representative before starting work)

Fire Arms

  • Are there any fire arms on the farm?

  • If yes, does the owner have a license?

  • Are the fire arms, bolts and ammunition stored separately in a secure place?

Employee Health

  • Do employees undergo any health checks? (E.g. Hearing, Eye Sight, Lung Function)

  • Is there any health related information available for employees? (Health eating, drinking etc)

  • Is sunblock provided to employees?

  • Is the drug an alcohol policy used / followed? (E.g. When employing new employees)

Behaviours of Personnel

  • Does the manager demonstrate a good knowledge of health and safety in the workplace?

  • Does the manager display safe behaviours? (E.g. lead by example)

  • Do employees display safe behaviours? (E.g. wear Ag Helmets or other PPE)

Dwellings

  • Are the dwellings in a good and tidy condition?

  • Are the dwellings fenced to ensure the security of children (Particularly near roads, lanes, driveways, effluent ponds, etc)

  • Is there a working smoke alarm installed in the dwellings?

  • Is there a suitable Fire Extinguisher installed in each dwelling? (tested and tagged in the last 12 months)
