1. Inspection Item - Basketball/Netball Courts and Equipment

  • 1.1 Is the equipment frame stable and free from movement

  • 1.2 Is the equipment free from damage, rust and corrosion, or split wood

  • 1.3 Protective coats/paint and equipment surfaces are free from damage and wear (eg no peeling paint)

  • 1.4 Bolts, nuts, screws and fastening pins are in place and secure flush with surround surface.

  • 1.5 Is the backboard fixed to galvanised steel post (Do not fix basketball ring and backboards to brickwork)

  • 1.6 Is the play space area free from loose stones or gravel and other trip Hazards

  • 1.7 Are there shade structures or tress offering shade over the playground area

2. Playground - Structural and Mechanical (Slide, Climbing)

  • 2.3 Rails, bolts, and other protruding sharp objects are covered with end caps (including tube and pipe ends)

  • 2.5 Handrails and steps are free from damage and are slip resistant

  • 2.6 Is the border free from sharp edges and trip hazards

  • 2.7 Is the maximum fall height under 2.5 meters for primary schools

  • 2.9 Are all concrete footings covered by earth to a depth of at least 200 mm

3. Impact Absorbing Surfaces

  • 3.1 Impact absorbing materials is present underneath equipment where there is a potential fall height minimum of 250mm

  • 3.3 Rubber/Synthetic Pads or tiles are in good condition and have not separated from the base layer and do not have any embedded foreign objects

  • 3.4 Loose impact absorbing material (eg bark or mulch) is free from sharp edges
