DOCUMENTATION

  • Are method statements/risk assessments available on site and do they detail a clear method of working which has been adequately communicated to site operatives?

  • If procedures such as hot works permits are required are these working effectively?

  • Are scaffold permits, hand over certs and inspection records available where relevant?

COMPETENCE

  • Are operatives/site supervisors able to demonstrate competence for the activities being carried out?

MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION

  • Is the level of site supervision considered adequate?

  • Are works being completed in accordance with agreed/documented system of work?

WELFARE

  • Are suitable welfare provisions including access to toilets / washing facilities with hot / cold running water within reasonable proximity (10mins) of the site?

ACCIDENTS/INCIDENTS AND FIRST AID

  • Are there clear procedures for reporting accidents/incidents including RIDDOR reports?

  • Are the First Aid arrangements proportional to the nature/scale of the project?

SIGNAGE

  • Is there suitable hazard warning signagein and around work areas, particularly those accessed by residents/members of the public?

SECURITY

  • Is the compound/work area controlled/protected with barriers/heras type fencing, as required to exclude residents/members of public?

FIRE AND EMERGENCY

  • Are reasonable fire precautions in place, including provision of portable fire extinguishers and clear procedures for other emergencies in place?

WORK EQUIPMENT (including hand tools)

  • All work equipment inclduing electrical and hand tools should be in good condition, free from obvious defects and subject to regular maintenance (e.g. PAT)?

  • Is all electrical equipment 110V or RCDs used?

CONTROL OF HEALTH HAZARDS

  • Are COSHH assessments in place for all potentially hazardous substances?

  • Are dust extraction systems,adequate ventilation, and dampening down techniques in place?

  • Where neccessary is noise and vibration assessment in place?

GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING

  • Is working area clear and free from trailing leads and trip hazards?

  • Are all heavy materials laid down or on long edges?

  • Are emergency routes clear of obstructions?

WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • Do arrangements for general waste appear to be adequate?

  • Are consignment notes available for the disposal of controlled waste?

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

  • Are operatives wearing suitable footwear, hand protection, hi vis vest, head protection, eye and ear protection, and other equipment as required by documented safe system of work/risk assessment?

COMMUNICATION

  • Has adequate communication e.g. Letters, newsletters, notices, phone calls been carried out where required?

WORK AT HEIGHT

  • Is equipment used for work at height the most suitable for the task?

  • Is equipment free from obvious defects?

  • Is equipment subject to adequate PPM?

  • Is equipment used by competent operatives?

ASBESTOS

  • Where applicable is asbestos information readily available on site and clearly understood by all operatives?

  • Are suitable procedures in place for asbestos emergencies and being followed?

DEMOLITION, EXCAVATION AND STRUCTURAL

  • Is suitable level of information provided e.g structural report, ground condition survey?

  • Are CAT scans completed and works being completed in accordance with agreed safe systems of work and risk assessments?
