In Cab Checks

  • Lights working. Including dipped,full beam, rear lights, fog light and reverse light

  • Hazard lights. Ensure hazards work with both engine running and not running an SD that all lights are operating.

  • Seats and seatbelts. Check seats are secure with no excess movement and seatbelts operate correctly with no cuts or wear to belt.

  • Horn and steering. Check horn operates correctly and steering has no excessive play.

  • Mirrors and windscreen. Check mirrors are correctly aligned and visibility is clear in all directions and is not obscured by stickers or any visible cracks. Report all copies no matter how minor

  • Wipers and screen wash. Check washers point at windscreen and operate. Check wipers work continuously when on

  • Foot brake. Check foot brake operates correctly with no excess travel. Also check brake lights operate when foot brake is pressed. Tip reverse close to a wall and use mirrors to watch fit brake lights coming on.

  • Hand brake. Check hand brake operates correctly with no excess travel

  • First aid kit. Do you have a first aid kit in the van and check contents are in date

External Checks

  • Battery. Check battery is secure and cables are connected correctly

  • Fluids, fuel and oil. Check all fluids levels, oil,power steering, brake fluid, screen wash. Ensure all caps are secure. Check engine bay and below vehicle for signs is leaks.

  • Bodywork and doors. Check all doors open and close correctly and are secure. Look for loose body panels.

  • Exhaust. Check there is not an excessive amount of smoke coming from exhaust.

  • Tyre and wheel checks:

    There must be a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm
    Tyres are sufficiently inflated
    No deep cuts in side wall of tyre
    No cord visible anywhere on tyre
    No missing or in secure wheel nuts
    Look for damage to rims of wheels

    REMEMBER 3 Points per tyre that's not safe and legal
