• Equipment which fails must be taken out of use immediately and prominently labelled and suitably restricted from use until repair or disposal.

• Stiles Must be in good condition.
  
  Make sure feet are not worn, damaged, dirty or missing or else there is the potential for ladder slip.
  
  Confirm the rungs are not bent, missing, or loose as this could affect the stability of the ladder.
  
  Make sure if fitted, that the locking bars are not bent, worn or damaged so as to prevent ladder collapse.
  
  Ensure the ladder treads are not contaminated or slippery.
  
  Make sure platforms on stepladders aren't split or buckled as this can lead to instability and collapse.
  
  Check steps on stepladders and make sure fixings aren't loose as the ladder may collapse.
