WEEKLY TOPIC

  • no label
  • This tailgate was submitted by a former Construction Manager several years ago, but it still holds true today...

Memorial Day weekend is the kickoff of what is known as the "101 Critical Days of Summer". This campaign, from Memorial Day through Labor Day has been run from the early 1980s. Air Force statistics have shown that this period has traditionally been a period of increased mishaps.

There are many factors that go into this increase: Complacency, fatigue, your mind in a totally different place and outside hazards. Complacency, Spring fever, and the lazy days summer....we have been conditioned to this since early youth with the excitement of summer freedom.

Fatigue heat, longer days, an increase in alcohol consumption, with an increase in temperature can cause dehydration or lack or proper hydration when it is HOT. Sometimes we aren't focused on the tasks at hand. We plan get-together s, BBQs, weekends camping, time on the boat and vacations. We also have outside hazards that range from bug bites to increased traffic on our freeways or increased tension and stress on ourselves and others.

  • I encourage everyone to keep safety and these 101 days in mind. Our safety awareness should always be keyed in, but when there are proven hard times ahead we need to be cognizant and exercise extra caution. Please focus, exercise good planning and safe practices at work AND at play. We are a team and we count on everyone to do their part. We care about our people.

  • Please heighten your awareness through these 101 Critical Days of Summer. Take the time to make sure you are prepared both physically and mentally for the day and the task no matter what it may be.
