General

Have staff undergone induction, orientation and buddy system to ensure they are appropriately performing theirappropriate manual handling training?

Do all staff have clean personal protective equipment and understand when to use it?

Are chemicals decanted through a funnel or decanting mechanism?

Are the chemicals then clearly labelled on the decanted container?

Do staff members know where to find the Material Safety Data Sheets for the chemicals being used? (ask a random HK person)

Are all chemicals labelled correctly, with warning signs and hazard classification?

Do staff know what to do in the event of a Chemical Spill? (ask random HK person)

Are lights free of dust and bugs?

Have you come across air conditioning vents or ducts that are damaged?

If yes, where is the damaged air condition vent or duct?

The patient sinks and toilets are clean, soap and towels are available?

Are floors clean, free of trash and boxes on floors?

Are housekeeping carts left unattended or out of sight of the housekeeping staff?

Are patient privacy curtains clean, hung properly, function properly and free of defects?

Are rubbish bins cleaned and emptied regularly?

Have waste products been identified and separated?

Is the disposal of waste through authorised waste disposal companies?

Housekeeping Stores

Are all housekeeping closets clean and chemicals and other items stored appropriately, ie chemicals not stored on or near electrical components?

Are all housekeeping carts clean and chemicals and other items stored appropriately?

Are the housekeeping closets free of unwanted items, ie furniture, food items, hospital supplies and non-housekeeping equipment?

Are staff aware they are not to take food items into the closets?

Are the closets locked when unattended?

Are the floors dry and clean?

Baler - Cardboard Compressing Machine

Are there any fire hazards around or near the baler?

Is the baler in good working condition?

Is the baler cage in good condition, ie no gaps or sharp edges?

is signage 'Operated by trained and authorised Personnel Only' clearly displayed?

Are the safety mechanism on the baler operating properly?

Is the area around the baler free from trip hazards?

Is there a trolley available for moving the cardboard bales?

Communication and Expectation

Do staff know who the fire warden is for their area?

Do staff understand who to report workplace injuries to and when to report injuries?

Do staff know who their WHS Committee representative is?

Do staff actively engage in safety discussions at their team meetings and is the meeting minuted?

Is the WHS Policy, Injury Management Flowchart, Injury Management Program Summary, current WHS Minutes and fire warden information current and clearly displayed on the noticeboard? Upload a photo of the staff noticeboard.
