Pillar Drill Maintenance Checklist

  • Visual checks on X/Y/Z Axis, is there free movement full way across/along the mill bed.

  • Operate electronic feed for X axis along the mill bed. Operate the machine at various speeds are there any issues.

  • Turn on mill head, increase and decrease chuck speed (RPM) and listen for any unusual sounds, are there any abnormalities.

  • Rotate mill head 90 degrees using manual drive both ways, does it rotate smoothly and locks into place

  • Remove old coolant from tray via drain holes underneath swarf tray, is the tray clean and clear

  • Remove pump from the rear entrance to the coolant tray and clean down, are there any faults or issues

  • Fill up coolant tray with 20% coolant and 80% water. Then place the pump back into the tray.

  • Give pump run through and check new coolant is flowing through, replace hose if clogged.

  • Check all limits work for every axis when fully driven both ways and test emergency stop button.

  • Wipe down machine using contact cleaner, clear out all swarf from mill bed and collection tray underneath.

  • Put all tools and chemicals (coolant, cleaner) used back into their respective locations

  • Fill out and sign off risk assessment and upload *this* report and RA to BAB Activ.
