Store Exterior

  • The store exterior is the first thing that your customer will notice. This is the beginning of their ‘shopping experience’ and where their opinions of your store starts. It is essential that it is always kept clean and well maintained as first impressions really do count. The standard of the store exterior will determine if customers decide to come inside to shop or not!

  • Is there any rubbish, dirt, weeds or graffiti immediately outside the store pavement?

  • Is fascia signage clean?

  • Overall is the store exterior neat, clean and tidy?

  • Is fascia signage in good state of repair and illuminated (if Applicable)?

  • Are all exterior POS graphics in a good condition?

  • Are standards being reviewed regularly throughout the day as part of in store routines?

Windows

  • The store windows advertise our business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and should be regarded as a highly valuable selling tool. Instructions and promotional material should always be adhered to. The window standards should be reviewed regularly throughout the day.

  • Is the glass clean on the outside and the inside of the windows?

  • Are window frame edges clean?

  • Are all window units in a good condition? Is the window bed clean, tidy and in good condition?

  • Are all spot lights illuminated? Are all spot lights angled towards product/POS messages?

  • Has the current window campaign been installed to a high standard as instructed?

  • Has the window back drop POS been installed correctly? Is it secure? Is the POS in good condition?

  • Are all window vinyls/decals installed correctly? Straight, level, no bubbles or creases and in the correct position?

  • Has the correct product SKU's been used for the window display?

  • Have sold-out products been substituted with products that fit in with the current visual theme in terms of use and/or colour theme? Do all products used make logical sense to the customer and are commercially appropriate?

  • Are product displayed to a high standard? All tags and stickers must be hidden.

  • Has all shelf POS been installed correctly and straight?

  • Overall are the windows neat, clean and tidy?

Store Porch / Entrance / Indoor Promotion

  • Is the main entrance porch neat clean and tidy? Is the door glazing clean and streak free?

  • Are high and low level corners, ledges and frames clean and clear? <br>All cobwebs, dust and any build up of grease and dirt around the door and flooring underneath sliding doors removed?

  • Are all entrance doorway POS and messages correct? Is all the POS positioned correctly? Straight, level and balanced?Are product recall notices positioned in plastic sleeves and secured with clear sticky tabs-No sellotape

  • If stores trade outside, is the product seasonally and commercially relevant, and has good stock availability?

  • Is there any duplication of product type, therefore impacting on commercial opportunity?

  • Are displays maintained to a high standard and display principles being used where appropriate?

  • Is POS clearly visible? Is the correct size ticket and holders used for the relevant fixture type?

  • Are EAS barriers clean ? Is the correct EAS barrier POS being used and is it in good condition?

  • Are trolley and basket bay areas neat clean and tidy and free from grease and dirt?

  • Are trolleys positioned in a neat line, not blocking the entrance to the store?Are different types available

Section Standards

  • Is navigational signage in the most focal position? Is it visible from the main customer walkway at a reasonable distance?

  • Has stock been merchandised and faced to company standard? Is stock laid out to planogram?

  • Are shelf edge labels positioned correctly?

  • Is the fill standard for each product on the top shelf correct? Stock not stacked too high?

  • Are the relevant amount of team members available on the section?

  • Are team members presented in a neat, clean, tidy manner and have name badges prominent?

  • Are the promotional end units commercially focused? Do they create a strong and logical adjacency? Is the best deal side unit facing customer flow?

  • Is there good stock availability across all promotion features? Is there good stock split between section and promotion features?

  • Are POS elements on all promotional features positioned correctly?

  • Are under sections cleaned as part of in store daily routines?

Till Standards

  • The checkout area is where the final lasting impression is created for the customer. Service should always be polite, efficient and the overall experience in line with laid down standards

  • Overall does the checkout area present a neat, clean and tidy first impression?

  • Are there relevant amount of team members available on the checkouts?

  • Is the top of the supervisor's desk and surrounding area clutter free?

  • Is any electrical equipment free from dust and dirt?

  • Overall does the help desk area present a neat, clean and tidy first impression?

  • Is service polite, efficient and the overall experience in line with Brand Behaviours?

  • Are team members presented in a neat, clean, tidy manner and have name badge prominent?

  • Is the area around the help desk clear and clutter free, bins emptied, no bags on the floor?

  • Are the customer returns under control and neat and tidy?

Warehouse

  • Your warehouse should be the engine room of your store, a clean organised and efficient warehouse in all areas will massively improve store operations and standard of replenishment, which will drive the commerciality of your store.

  • Is overall stock under control and stacked using safe working practices?

  • Is equipment not in use stored in a safe controlled manner, such as ladders and pallet trucks?

  • Are all volume product neatly stored on fixtures or pallets?

  • Are all fire exits clear, accessible and free from obstruction?

  • Are bins controlled in line with laid down policies?

  • Is the loading / un-loading area clean, tidy and free from obstruction?

  • Is the goods Inwards areas/yards outside free from rubbish, dirt or graffiti?

  • Are unused fixtures stored in a safe and controlled manner in line with H+S policies and procedures guidelines?

  • Is unused current POS stored in a safe and controlled manner in line with H+S policies and procedures guidelines?

Staff Area

  • These areas are for everyone to relax and recharge during the working day. Staff areas should be set up to enable everyone to have private time in clean, pleasant and welcoming surroundings that are as well maintained as other areas of the store

  • Does the staff room give a good first impression neat, clean and tidy?

  • Are all kitchen cupboard and drawers clean and organised?

  • Are (any) recycling bins in place and maintained?.

  • Is the area free from stock, excess equipment and POS?

  • All notice boards should be in use and up to date. Only legal or relevant notices in place.

Staff Toilets & Locker Rooms

  • It is essential that these areas are always maintained to the highest possible standards. These areas are part of running a successful store and should be as good as you would like them to be at home.

  • Are mirrors and all sanitary ware clean?

  • Are bins emptied?

  • Are all toilets clear of stock, excess fixtures/equipment and POS?

  • Are there sufficient supplies of toilet tissue, air freshener and hand soap?

  • Locker Area

  • Are locker tops clutter free and clean?

  • Are coats & jackets hung on hooks provided?

  • Are all lockers in good working order?

Office Areas

  • Having a clean and well organised office will ensure that all administration activities can be carried out quickly and efficiently. All back of house areas should reflect and meet the same high standards of the shop floor.

  • Are desk tops clear and desk draws organised and clutter free?

  • Are desks, surfaces and floors clean?

  • Does all office give a good first impression, neat, clean and tidy?

  • Is equipment free from dirt and dust? Have bins been emptied?

  • Are the relevant notices displayed on notice boards?

  • Is there a consistent filing system in place? Is all confidential paperwork stored as identified in the policies and procedures manual?

  • Is the Managers office door locked if not in use?<br>

Maintenance

  • Is interior decoration, ceiling tiles and lighting in good state of repair? Have unused POS ceiling clips been removed?

  • Is the shop floor clean and is there a floor cleaning rota in place?

  • Are any cleaning cupboards neat, clean and tidy and to company standard?
