  • WELCOME EVERYONE to the RJA TOOLBOX TALK on "Silicosis - Dry Cutting Manufactured Stone"

AGENDA ITEMS

  • 1. Notice - RJA is serious about worker safety. Today we are talking about Silicosis and cutting of manufactured stone. Manufactured stone includes stone bench-tops in our environment.

  • 2. When products or materials containing crystalline silica are cut, sanded, drilled or ground into, a very fine dust is created. This dust is harmful when inhaled and can lead to silicosis. Silicosis can be fatal within five to 10 years – sometimes for people as young as 20 or 30.

  • 3. Uncontrolled dry cutting and grinding is prohibited.

  • 4. To comply you will need to wet cut, use dust extraction systems on portable tools, or adopt other methods that eliminate or minimise the generation of silica dust.
