Access to Site

  • Is there a signing in procedure in place for visitors / contractors?

  • Is there any other way in which there is a record of who (apart from staff) may have visited the site?

  • Is there any form of access control / registration so that the attendance of staff is accounted for? (Think particularly about out of hours access)

  • Is there any CCTV coverage for the site?

  • Is there a log of all key holders for the site? (Remember to check for those outside of The Trust for example security).

Lone Working

  • Is lone working required at the site? If out of hours is there a genuine operational need?

Contractors (E.g. Cleaners, Security & Others)

  • Are any contractors who may be able to access the building as key holders made aware of The Trust's safeguarding policy (and other relevant policies) and asked to acknowledge acceptance of them?

  • Are any contractors who may be able to access the building as key holders asked to provide copies of their safeguarding policy (and other relevant polices such as Health & Safety)?

Site Inspection Checks

  • Are there any locked rooms with only limited access?

  • Can rooms be accessed for purposes of this audit and inspected? Are all those with access known and is access controled?

  • If there is a visitor / contractor sign in process is it used?

  • Check any logs of keys being signed out for any unusual activity.

  • Check storage cupboards, containers, shelving etc. for any suspicious items (literature, children's items, excessive clothing etc.).

  • Check infrequently used parts of buildings.

Observations

  • Give details of any other observations or comments
