Chain slings must be inspected quarterly, with particular attention being paid to the following
-
Inspect every link individually for signs of wear, twisting, stretching, gouging or nicks.
-
Assess the degree of damage and refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for allowable degree of wear.
-
Inspect the load-bearing points for any sort of wear or distortion eg widening of any hook throat opening
-
Clean the sling before inspection if required so that faults can be easily seen and felt.
-
All connections must be inspected for signs of wear at the load- bearing points, any excessive movement of the load pin and for poor rotation of the body halves around the load pin.
