Safety checking of Kermantle and Hawser Type ropes in accordance with AS 1891

As the rope is run thought the hands defects cab be detected visually or by touch.

  • ID label present indicating unique number, source, length, type and date

  • Cuts to sheath, core or strands

  • Abrasions or fraying

  • Glazing or crispiness due to friction, heat damage or possible chemical contamination

  • Unravelling of the strands

  • Stretching

  • Stiffness, (indicates possible shock loading)

  • Damage due to contact with heat, corrosives, chemicals and solvents

  • Deterioation due to Ultraviolet light or mildrew

  • Lumps due to grit in the core

POSITIVE OBSERVATIONS

  • Note Positive Observations: is the equipment in good condition

AT RISK OBSERVATIONS

  • Note Observations to be rectified by WHEN and WHO !
