Waste Disposal Policy

Rubbish Chutes

  • There are 2 rubbish chutes located in each building core, it is very important that you use them properly because they can get blocked easily

  • • Do not put any cardboard in the bin chutes. You must take all cardboard down to the bin room

  • • Do not put any soft plastics, bin bags, glass, tissues, or nappies in recycling

  • • Dispose of the correct waste type in the correct chute, separating recycling and general waste. You must check Reading council’s information to determine what can be recycled

  • • Place all general waste in tied sacks, all recycling must be loose and not in bin bags

  • • Don’t put large or awkward shaped items in the bin chutes. If you can’t fit it in your supplied kitchen bin and close it normally, it is too large for the chute

  • • Take large items, such as moving boxes, to the bin stores, located on level -1 in the car park

  • • Don’t leave any items next to the chute, in staircases, hallways, or next to bins where they will become a nuisance and safety hazard

  • • Broken glass, or heavy items should not be disposed of in the bin chutes, such items should be taken to the bin stores

  • • If you are not sure what can be recycled, please ask our staff
