Week 4 - Full Inspection

  • Gym layout is very good with plenty of space around all equipment to gain access & move past equipment when in or out of use

  • Posters are on display advising:<br>1. In case of emergency<br>2. Use equipment at own risk<br>3. Reminder use to pendants<br>4. Wipe down equipment<br>5. Sign in and sign out<br>Staff hours. Outlining – if OOH then be aware (use pendant/care team are on site) are all on display.<br>

  • Is the signing in sheet in place and being used.

  • Gym area floor is carpet & flat & possesses no trip hazard.

  • Use scheme tracker to monitor any concerns and those customers who have been inducted

  • The floor is anti-slip flooring, wet floor signs put out. Gym users advised to wear sensible footwear on induction.

  • The floor in all these areas are tiled. Signs available to put in place if flooring becomes wet.

  • A number of down lighters provide a good standard of lighting.

  • An extractor fan is fitted & working whilst users exercising, wall fans also in situ.

  • A detector is fitted centrally to ceiling of gym & annually tested by contractors. Fire evacuation procedure posted on notice board for users to follow.

  • Scheme Assistants keep area clean & clutter free & has daily cleaning schedule. Wipe down of equipment after use.

  • All users are individually inducted on correct use of the gym equipment. G.P consent is strongly advised before commencing a workout program. Disclaimer form signed

  • Where applicable the gym has pendants to use in the event that they need assistance

  • Staff induction qualifications are shown on notice board, training provided by Midland Heart

  • All call points in the gym are clearly visible, red pull cords as in flats. Where applicable there are also pendants to wear. These are tested regularly and evidence is held in the main office. (CCSS or Openview)

  • Manufacturer’s guidelines readily available in gym. Annual equipment carried out by verified sports contractor. Certificate of inspection displayed on gym wall. Staff carry out a weekly visual inspection of all equipment ensuring there are no noticeable defects, equipment to be placed out of use and sports contractor called out.

  • All staff, are trained in basic first aid. Evidence is available on the training matrix. First Aid box located in gym for minor injuries help from other services (999, GP) should be sought for major accidents or injuries. All gym users are assessed and trained on equipment when joining

  • Risk Assessments are up to date and tailored appropriately.
