FIRE EXTINGUISHER CHECKS

  • Please check the following on all extinguishers:

  • - Correctly stowed, securing strap in good condition

  • - Pull tab is intact and pin is in place

  • - No obstructions around extinguisher (if yes, clear the area)

  • - No leaking, corrosion or water damage on the overall unit (especially on the base)

  • - Extinguisher number corresponds to extinguisher type and location

  • - Powder extinguishers must be shaken and tapped several times, upside down, to release the build up of powder at the base and then replaced

  • - CO2 extinguishers require a visual check of unit, ensure nozzle is well attached and clear

  • - Foam extinguishers require a visual check of the unit

FIRE HYDRANT CHECKS

  • When conducting these inspections, the crew member should carry at least a wire brush, vaseline for the seals and some rags/simple green for cleaning of the locker spaces

  • Please check the following on all fire hydrants:

  • - Hose in good condition, no damage to the couplings or rubber seals

  • - No corrosion on couplings. Build up of corrosion on couplings to be removed with the wire brush

  • - Nozzle in position and can freely cycle between jet and fan settings

  • - Hydrant valve can operate freely from full open to full close (make sure to leave in CLOSED position)

  • - All o-rings are sufficiently lubricated with vaseline (hydrant, hose and nozzle o-rings)

  • - Hydrant key is in place
