The Foreman needs to check and consider all items below to ensure they can safely operate plant without tipping over.

  • Has a Risk Assessment been completed by a Competent Person?

General

  • Site traffic management plan checked, clear access into works areas for all plant, can plant turn with a load into the works areas.

  • Ensure that all work areas have solid ground, or that they have been compacted or cleared before works starts. Walk the works areas and consider where materials will be unloaded.

  • Check / ask on site if there are any soft spots, run offs or trenches that have been dug. Walk and check the areas for man holes, culverts, cellars or underground voids. Where required, ask the client to compact ground.

  • Ensure that weather conditions will not create additional hazards and always check the ground after rains. Log any findings in the site diary.

  • Check that spreader pads are available and used before operating plant. Utilise hand tools to ensure pads are level before lifting plant. If required, seek guidance from senior management.

  • Check "EMERGENCY PROCEDURE" is clear to all operatives for lowering of plant.

  • Check harness dates and fixing points and ensure all staff are clear on the need to harness up.

  • Check that tyres are in good order, the RAMS are working correctly and the plant certification is in date. Complete these checks daily, complete plant return weekly.

  • Check that when operating plant at height that there are no additional hazards, risk of crush, overhead cables, risk of materials or plant going over site boundaries.

  • Check that the means of access and egress to the work space is adequate for both normal and emergency use.

  • Clearly Identify additional safety requirements on this document. Need for pads, no work in these areas until ground works complete etc.
