Installation

  • Fire alarm cabling is supported independently of all other systems.

  • Fire alarm wiring shall be in conduit in concealed, non-accessible, or exposed areas. Plenum rated cable in concealed accessible areas

  • FA cable/conduit adequately supported. Zip ties are not allowed for conduit.

  • Minimum conduit size is 3/4"

  • Verify colored conduit fittings used as follows:<br>Black-normal<br>Blue-standby<br>Orange-mechanical<br>Yellow-life safety<br>Green-grounding<br>Red-fire alarm<br>White-security<br>No paint-comm

  • EMT installed at exterior locations

  • No liquid tight flex conduit

  • Fire alarm wiring only within raceways

  • FA conduit/cable is not resting on other materials

  • Flex connectors for all devices mounted in ACT

  • No wire nut connections allowed

  • FA conduit/cable is installed with building lines

  • Smoke/heat detectors are 12" from light fixtures

  • Detectors are installed within 3' of ceiling elevation change per NFPA 72E

  • Pull boxes must have base 4' AFF and be within 5' from a door

  • All devices mounted are mounted to the ceiling where possible

  • Devices are centered in ceiling tiles

  • Raceways 6" away from parallel runs of flues/hot water pipes

  • Devices are on full tiles, not partial tiles

  • Wall mount alarms at 80" AFF or 6" below ceiling (whichever is lower)

  • Locate devices in ACT where possible, not gyp

  • All conductors in pull boxes or cabinets with more than one wire must be labeled

  • Paint conduit to match adjacent finishes in exposed areas. <br>

  • Surface mounted boxes (pull stations) should be painted the same color as the alarm station.

  • FA conduit/cable does not obstruct access to VAVs (3' clearance required)

  • Plenum rated cable ties/anchors

  • FA boxes and covers are red and identified

  • Grommets or bushings for fire alarm provided at conduit stub out

  • Smoke/heat detectors are free of paint

VESDA

  • VESDA piping supported at 5' centers

  • Max distance between testing points = 20'

  • Pipe shall be orange, identified w/ Aspirating Smoke Detector Pipe, w/ stickers on sampling points
