Description of Location

Safety/Housekeeping

 • Scrap material picked up

 • Proper PPE being worn

Berg's Internal Checklist

 • All predecessors are complete and ready( structure, mechanical, gravity piping)

 • Forman has confirmed all changes are up to date

 • Review all drawings that pertain to work area including equipment schedules & reflected ceiling plans

 • Pre-fab is in appropriate location

 • J-boxes are completely marked out (F/A, Sec, etc.)

 • Approved materials only, confirm before commencing work

 • Every box will be made up & ready for lights or branch tie in.

 • Areas foreman and Berg QC inspector approve rough in before inspection is called

Materials

 • Use the following wiring methods:
-Exposed (below 10' or where subject to damage)- IMC, rigid steel conduit
-Exposed (above 10' or in electrical room)- EMT
-Concealed- EMT
-Concealed- MC cable will be allowed as final branch wiring (max length of 25' from home run or hard piped j-box to outlet) MC IS NOT ALLOWED FOR HOMERUNS TO PANELS/CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT

 • Use flexible conduit (max 6') for recessed/semi recessed light fixtures, equipment subject to vibration/noise, and all motors. Separate equipment grounding conductors required across flexible connections. Flexible connections to equipment shall be installed in a grossly slack U shape or a 360 loop

Installation

 • No ductwork installed over electrical panels or equipment

 • Sound and fire caulking in place

 • Conduit racks are tight and level

 • All open ends of conduit are capped with tape or plugs

 • Verify all conduits entering a j-box, electrical panel or pull box have insulated bushings

 • Conduit and cable tray has no visible damage (crimpings, improper bends, etc)

 • Fire alarm cabling is supported independently of all other systems. Additional supports should be added as necessary.

 • Verify that all ceiling wire or gripple used for support of j-box's, MC cable, low voltage wiring or conduit has been secured to the ceiling

 • All elevation changes of the cable tray are made with fittings or waterfalls

 • All j-boxes are closed

 • Verify that location of conduit & cable tray are installed per model

 • All conductors are to be solid wire (not stranded)

 • Verify cable tray is supported at least every 10' UPDATE

 • Unused KO's in J-boxes are plugged

 • Threaded rod excess is cut off

 • Unused hangers/rods are removed

 • Verify conduit is not supported from other equipment

 • Verify EMT and rigid steel conduit is supported every 10' and 3' from j-box

 • Verify MC cable is supported at least every 6' and 12" max from j-box. MC Cable should not be more than 50' long from the home run J-box to receptacle or light fixture.

 • Verify cable tray is supported at 8' intervals max

 • Support raceway within 1' of an unsupported box/access fitting

 • Verify that power and control wiring is installed in separate raceways

 • Insulation resistance levels tested prior energizing

 • Spring steel fasteners may be used in lieu of hangers only for 1.5" and smaller raceways serving lighting and receptacle branch circuits above suspended ceilings only. For hanger rods with spring steel fasteners, use 1/4" diameter or larger threaded steel.

 • In open overhead spaces:
Cast boxes threaded to raceways need not be supported separately except where used for fixture support
Sheet metal boxes should be attached to building structure or by bar hangers
Where bar hangers are used, attach bar to raceways on opposite sides of the box and support not more than 24" from the box

 • Keep raceways min. 6" from parallel runs of flues and steam or hot water pipe

 • Raceways completed prior to installation of conductors

 • Support parallel runs of horizontal raceways together on trapeze hangers

 • Verify max MC size is #8AWG

Identification

 • Apply electronic label on the outside of all receptacles and switch plates identifying circuit and panel board

 • Label conduits at all underground stub ups with where the conduit is routed to

 • Verify colored conduit fittings used as follows:
Black-normal
Blue-standby
Orange-mechanical
Yellow-life safety
Green-grounding
Red-fire alarm
White-security
No paint-comm

 • Conductor color coding:
Apply colored, pressure sensitive tape in half lapped turns for a distance of 6" from terminal points and in boxes where splices or taps are made
208/120 Phase 480/277
Black. A. Brown
Red. B. Orange
Blue. C. Yellow
White. N. Gray
Green. G. Green

 • Identify penetration firestopping with labels within 6" of edge of fire stopping

Low Voltage Raceways

 • Verify that all raceways installed for low voltage cabling have pull strings installed. Leave no less than 12" of slack at each end.

 • Verify bushings are installed on the ends of all raceways installed for low voltage cabling

 • Verify raceways have been provided above all hard lid ceilings for pathway for low voltage cabling

 • Verify that all raceways installed for low voltage systems terminate above an accessible ceiling
