Dock / Yard Facilities & Condition

  • Is a Traffic Management Plan in place (e.g. site rules, traffic rules, line marking, speed signs, pedestrian walkways?)

  • Are there designated truck waiting zones / bays?

  • Is there enough room for a truck to manoeuvre / turn around, get in and out etc

  • Is the yard tidy and clear? (Not congested by freight tor other equipment, excessive containers etc)

  • Is the hard stand / dock in acceptable condition? ( no slip, trip or fall hazards )

  • Is there adequate protection for pedestrians and drivers whilst out of truck (e.g. driver safe zones, pedestrian walkways marked, bollards, visitor parking etc)

  • Are Unloading / Loading facilities suitable - dock, unloading bay, hoist

  • Hoist - do the rollers work, 3 phase access has no exposed leads or wires, regularly serviced

  • If a hoist is installed, Is the hoist operator waiting until the driver is standing in a safe zone prior to moving the hoist?

  • Are there truck loading / unloading issues (e.g. narrow dock, lack of assistance/service, sloping dock)

  • Are safety features observed to being used on forklifts (e.g. flashing lights, reversing beepers)

  • Forklift / Pedestrian exclusion is observed as being followed (3 metre rule)?

  • Empty returns (containers / units / pallets) - does the storage area have safe access, returns are stored safely, tidy?

  • Other freight and packaging material (e.g. are there chep pallets available, are items able to be palletised and wrapped / tied down for safe loading)

  • If working outside of daylight hours is there adequate lighting ?

Emergency Arrangements

  • Do Drivers have access to facilities - toilets, lunchroom, first aid?

  • Is there a visible emergency procedure in place - exit signs visible, fire extinguishers, evacuation assembly point?

  • Are there additional spill kits available?

Warehouse Entry (IF APPLICABLE)

  • If our workers are NOT required to enter the warehouse you can answer N/A to each question.

  • Is there driver protection if entering the warehouse ? ( e.g. restricted areas, bollards, railings, designated pedestrian walkways)

  • Is forklift safety in warehouse evident (e.g. speed limits, respect for pedestrians, horns in and out of doorways and blind spots)

  • General housekeeping - floors and walkways clear?

  • General physical condition of the building (roof - leaking, floor - cracked, potholes, racking damaged)

Other

  • Are our employee's operating any of the sites equipment e.g. hoists?

  • Has the site inducted our employee to the equipment and trained them on how to use it with a Safe Work Procedure?

  • Can they supply a copy of the signed induction or training now or send it to safety@wymap.com.au?

  • Are there electrical hazards ? (e.g. low hanging overhead wires, extension leads across roller doors / yard)

  • Are there regular site delays, excessive waiting times ? (.....that may affect fatigue management)

  • Are dangerous goods held on site - stored adequately?
