1. Conduits

Underground conduit - heavy duty rigid PVC to AS2053, orange in color. Above-ground conduits installed externally in process or wet areas of the plant, including tunnels, shall be heavy duty 316 grade stainless steel as a minimum. Conduits installed in protected areas outdide of the process or wet areas of the plant, such as sub-stations, may be heavy duty seamless galvanised steel screwed type to AS/NZS2053. Conduits shall be sized to accommodate 40% additional cables.

2. Sizing

20mm for lighting circuits, general power and instruments. 32mm for all other circuits.

3. IP Rating
-
Conduit systems shall equal or exceed the IP rating of any enclosure they penetrate. Approximately size PVC plain reducers shall be installed over the ends of the conduit where cables exit to a fitting.

4. Conduit Fixing
-
All bends in conduit systems shall be large or sweep radius type. Inspection type conduit fittings shall not be used.

5. Conduit Fixing
-
All fittings used in the connection and support of steel conduits shall be stainless steel. All threads shall be coated with an anti-seize compound prior to assembly.

6. Stainless Steel Conduits
-
Stainless steel conduit runs shall be mechanically continuous across joints with the use of hydraulically pressed stainless couplers made from the same material as the conduit.

7. Earthing
-
Metallic conduit shall be fully earthed before the drawing in of cables or conductors. Junction and draw boxes shall be mounted completely free of obstructions likely to hinder the installation of cabling. The maximum slaving for junction or draw in boxes shall be 10,000mm. Spare conduits shall have a galvanised wire draw in and left to act as a future draw wire and effectively plugged with screwed end stops.

8. Changes in Direction

Changes in direction shall be by bends, large radius sets in the conduits, or by using junction boxes (above ground only). Flexible conduit shall not be used as a substitute to avoid bending rigid conduit. Flexible conduit sections shall be secured to the rigid conduit system and terminated at the equipment with accepted conduit glands or fixings.

9. Flexible Conduits

Flexible conduits shall be manufactured from galvanised steel, helically wound, flexible steel conduit covered with a black poly vinyl coating. To terminate SS conduits @ Equipment; 500 mm long.
