Painting - Checklist

Spray Paint

  • Confirm for updated drawings, RFI's, plans & specs

  • Have all draw-downs been submitted and approved

  • If precast or concrete, does the substrate need to be power washed

  • Confirm that all items not to receive paint have been protected from overspray

  • Confirm that duct work or any other form of air movement has the correct filters installed to reduce fume transfer

  • Are all surfaces free of rust, stains, fireproofing, or anything else that may cause a flaw to the finish surface

  • Confirm that all substrates are at the correct temperature to receive material

  • Confirm that all substrates are not wet or contain too much moisture

  • Do all sprayed surfaces have a uniform finish

  • Is the wind calm enough not to cause overspray to carry a distance

  • Have all trades either moved or protected their stored materials from overspray

  • Are all MEP's complete before spray

  • Have sprinkler heads been protected from spray

  • Have smoke detectors been protected from spray

  • Confirm the paint is the correct product from the correct manufacturer

  • Are all coatings applied to the correct MIL thickness

  • If precast or concrete, is the pH level at an acceptable range

  • Have all protection materials (i.e. tape, plastic, foil) been removed from items that were being protected (i.e. hinges, convectors, sprinkler heads)

  • Look for imperfections before the architect creates the punch list

  • Confirm clean-up of our material and scrap

  • Did you walk and inspect the job site with the G.C.

Paint Brush & Roll

  • Confirm for updated drawings, RFI's, plans & specs

  • Have all draw-downs been submitted and approved

  • Confirm that the taping quality is ready for paint prior to finish coat

  • Do any walls receive a level 5 finish

  • Have all MEP trades completed their work (including any demo and re-installation)

  • Were all drywall patches sanded

  • Were drywall patches spot primed

  • Confirm the ceiling and floor base heights are finish taped to the right height

  • Is the lighting adequate to install the finish coat

  • Are all trades complete before the installation of any specialty finishes

  • After applying the finish coat, are all walls free from damage

  • Do all surfaces have a uniform finish

  • Have you walked the project looking for imperfections prior to the architect creating a punch list

  • Confirm clean-up of our material and scrap

  • Did you walk and inspect the job site with the G.C.
