  • Have all options been explored to eliminate the need for workers to work in the vicinity of overhead powerlines?

  • Does the SWMS detail all electrical hazards and non-electrical hazards, both actual and potential with suitable control measures?

  • Have all overhead services been identified on specific services drawings?

  • Is the suitable height and warning signage installed that clearly indicates the presence and height dangers of powerlines?

  • Have barriers have been installed to physically prevent mobile plant entering within safe approach distances (SAD) of the overhead cables?

  • Where there is no barricading and the mobile plant capable of encroaching Safe Approach Distance (SAD), is the mobile plant fitted with height AND /or slew restrictors?

  • Take a photo of the height/slew restrictors

  • Has an accredited Safety Observer / Spotter (where legislation requires one) been assigned to observe and warn against unsafe approach to overhead powerlines?

  • Do the workers who are carrying out the work hold the relevant certificates of competency (e.g. crane operator, dogman, scaffolder, rigger, EWP operator)?

  • Have tiger tails been fitted to the low voltage / lighting cables, where the Asset Owner / Network Operator allows them to be fitted?

  • Take a photo of the tiger tails installed over powerlines

  • Is the work area free of obstructions and is there safe access and egress?

  • Take a photo of the area.

  • Has all plant been inspected before use?

  • Take a photo of the plant inspection book

  • Is the emergency response plan in place and understood?

  • Discuss with workers; what the emergency response plan is. Which of the following does the plan include?
