  • Contaminated land (excavations)

  • Protected trees

  • Waterways (dam/divert/working in/adjacent to and to discharge to)

  • Pumping Stations

  • Sewer discharge

  • Archaeological Consents

  • Is there a site specific consent for this project?

  • Are consents on site?

  • Are the consent conditions being met for all the applicable consents? (If NO, please provide comments on what aspects are not compliant).

Site Documentation

  • Regional Environmental Management Plan on site?

  • Project Specific Environmental Management Plan on site? (A3 Format)?

  • Environmental Risks/Hazards identified on HSE board and/or displayed on site daily sign on register?

  • Material Safety Data Sheets on site for chemicals being used/stored on site?

Dust Management Aspects

  • Are work areas, access roads and stockpiles effectively managed for dust control?

  • External roads clear of mud and work site effectively managed to minimise mud build up on site?

Noise and Vibration Aspects

  • Works fall within agreed work hours?

  • Noise and Vibration monitoring being done if required?

  • Generators, plant and machinery situated to minimise noise? Has the site adopted any noise buffering techniques (e.g sound boxes, placement of generators behind solid brick walls, use of hay bales etc)

Erosion and Sediment Control Aspects

  • Trafficable areas are stabilised? Works being staged to limit potential erosion and sediment control risks?

  • Kerb drainage (incl. stormwater sumps and waterways) protected and/or clear from debris, materials and sediment?

  • Stockpiles managed effectively with appropriate sediment controls in place (including stockpiling of liquid waste, e.g. bentonite mud)?

  • Dewatering is going through a sediment control system and oil water seperator prior to discharge (OWS required only for High risk dewatering sites)?

  • Sediments within sediment control tank is less than 50% full?

  • Dewatering discharge point is inspected on a regular basis (at least once/day), with no signs of erosion evident?

Contamination, Waste Water, Chemical Management and Pollution Prevention

  • Appropriately staged concrete, lime and cement wash-out area on site?

  • Areas of contamination identified and plan in place to limit potential exposure?

  • Wastewater bypass monitoring taking place in accordance with Overpumping Wastewater Procedure Manual? Must include evidence that daily checks are taking place of bypass system?

  • Containers carrying chemicals/hazardous substances are clearly and correctly labelled?

  • Storage areas for fuel, chemicals and other hazardous substances are located in covered, well ventilated and secure locations?

  • Secondary bunding present for all chemicals to limit site contamination risks?

  • Asbestos containing material or coal tar has been managed and disposed of appropriately since the last environmental audit?

  • Mechanical plant free from oil leaks and appear in good condition, and fuelling points have no visual signs of spills?

  • Spill trays and temporary bunds are in place or available on site for use during fuelling operations?

  • Spill kits are available on site at all times, adeqautely stocked, accessible, visible, and suitably sized for the project?

Flora and fauna aspects

  • All environmentally significant areas (e.g. protected trees, ecological sites, waterways) are clearly identified and marked?

  • All trees, shrubs, garden beds and verges within the work area are not damaged? Trees have adeqaute protection zones established?

  • Drip line areas of trees are clear from stockpiles, materials, machinery and plant?

Waste Management

  • Is the site free from litter and rubbish?

  • Is waste separation currently in place on site to limit material going to landfill and to maximise re-use? Has the site adopted any waste saving initiatives since the last audit?

  • Are waste receipts/dockets available for auditing of waste data? Can evidence be provided that waste is going to appropriately consented landfill/cleanfill sites?

Environmental Incidents/Community Relations

  • Have there been any community interactions regarding the works? If so, were there any complaints?

  • Have all complaints been recorded on site and the site supervisor notified?

  • Have corrective actions been undertaken to limit the potential for reoccurrence?

  • Have any environmental incidents occurred on site since the last environmental audit?

  • Have all environmental incidents been recorded on an OFI form?

  • Have corrective actions been undertaken to limit the potential for reoccurrence?

Archaeology, Cultural and Heritage Aspects

  • Have all sites of known cultural significance been located and communicated to site? Have correct protocols been followed for accidental discoveries?

  • For High and Medium risk sites has an archaeologist been on site and provided a site briefing?

Housekeeping

  • Site is well organised and effectively managed, with site kept tidy, free of rubbish and clearly signposted for environmental risks/hazards.
