All persons undertaking Verification of Competency shall be assessed by a person deemed to have suitable subject matter knowledge by either qualification or practical experience and nominated by the company General Manager.

The nominated assessor shell ensure all Hazards - Safe Operation - Maintenance Cleaning Instruction are relayed to the person being assessed and that the knowledge assessment is recorded.

SAFE OPERATION

ONLY EMPLOYEES PROPERLY INSTRUCTED ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE THE MACHINE

DO NOT INHIBIT THE MOVEMENT OF GUARDS

PRESSING THE "STOP" BUTTON STOPS THE MACHINE UNDER ANY CONDITION
-
STOP THE MACHINE WHEN SETTING UP THE WORK MATERIAL
-
CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE BLADE, A BLUNT BLADE REQUIRES MORE PRESSURE WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS
-
ENSURE THAT LONG AND HEAVY WORK PIECES ARE PROPERLY SUPPORTED
-
ENSURE THAT ALL LOCKS ARE TIGHTENED BEFORE OPERATING
-
ENSURE THE WORK PIECE IS SECURELY HELD IN THE VICE
-
DO NOT CUT FREEHAND, DO NOT CROSS OVER HANDS WHEN CUTTING
-
DO NOT START THE MACHINE WITH THE WORKPIECE AGAINST THE BLADE
-
ALLOW THE MACHINE TO DEVELOP FULL SPEED BEFORE CUTTING
-
THE MAXIMUM CUT MUST NOT BE EXCEEDED
-
NEVER REACH OVER THE BLADE FOR ANY REASON
-
RETURN THE CUTTING HEAD COMPLETELY TO THE TOP OF THE SAW AFTER EACH CUT
-
DO NOT REMOVE HAND FROM THE OPERATING HANDLE UNLESS THE CUTTING HEAD IS COMPLETELY ABOVE THE WORKPIECE
-
EYE AND HEARING PROTECTION IS MANDATORY, OPERATORS MUST WEAR CLOSE FITTING CLOTHING, CONTAIN LONG HAIR AND BEARDS, REMOVE WATCHES AND JEWERLLY
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

THE LOCAL ISOLATOR MUST BE CLOSED, TAGGED AND LOCKED PRIOR TO ANY MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING WORK COMMENCING

STOP THE MACHINE TO CLEAR WORK MATERIAL, OFF CUTS AND SWARF FROM AROUND THE BLADE AND CUTTING AREA
-
REFER TO LOCKOUT & MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FOR WORKING ON PLANT & EQUIPMENT
KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT

(1) Does the feed rate affect the the quality of the cut and blade life ?
- Yes

(2) Why is the low speed setting used ?
- To compensate for hard or tough materials
- The speed does not matter hard or soft materials

(3) Why is coolant required to be used ?
- To provide a lubricant and maintain the blade at a suitable operating temperature

(4) Why is it important to maintain a stead pressure during the cut ? Note* More than one correct answer
- To allow the blade to cut at the optimum rate
- To avoid the work hardening
- The cut pressure is not important

(5) Why is it important not to allow the machine to run idle in the upright position for more than 3 minutes ?
- Not a problem
- Damage can be caused to the gearbox because lack of load
