Inspection of Strapping

  • Are there any cuts, fray areas, wear or other damage to the ratchet strap?

  • Is the color faded? This can lead to weakening of the strap.

  • Does the strap show clearly, the safe working load?

  • Are the ratchet straps the correct length for the application?

  • Is the ratchet strap free of any grease or other contaminants including mould?

  • Do the ratchet strap's hooks have any cracks, bends, rust or other damage?

  • Are the ratchet strap's hooks the correct type and size for the application?

  • Are the ratchet strap's hooks free of any grease or other contaminants including mould?

  • Do the ratchet strap's D-rings have any cracks, bends, or other damage?

Inspection of Ratchet

  • Is the ratchet handle assembly free of damage.

  • Do either the handle or release mechanism, make any noise when opened and closed? This could be a sign the handle needs lubricating. When lubricating, avoid contact with webbing as this will degrade over time.

  • Are there any missing parts to the ratchet handle?

  • Are all bolts secure? They are not loose.
