General Safety

  • Are the tables, chairs, and other furniture in a state of operational integrity and compliance with safety standards?

  • Are there areas within the department that may present potential hazards associated with cutting, puncturing, or causing lacerations?

  • Materials are stored on racks securely?

  • Open containers and food are on not production floor?

  • Are the garbage cans over flowing?

Walk & Working Surfaces

  • Ladders are clean, not damaged, and stored properly?

  • Work areas are neat and orderly?

  • Walkways are kept free of obstruction and trip hazards?

  • Portable stairs are in a safe working order and have safety lock in place?

  • Banding and dunnage not laying around in work / walking areas?

Machine / Tool / Facility Safety

  • All points of operation and points of contact are gaurded?

  • Areas surrounding machines are free of hazards?

  • Grinders and/or saws have guards in place and working?

  • Air compressor lines, hoses and fittings in good condition?

  • Are there any apparent safety concerns pertaining to the building or its surrounding grounds?

Hazard Communication

  • Containers are labeled according to the contents?

  • Chemical containers are stored properly and sealed when not used

  • Containers not leaking?

  • Employees understand how to access Safety Data Sheets (SDS)?

  • Spill Kits are clean, accessible, sealed and ready for use?

  • Compressed gas cylinders are secure and valves are closed?

  • Waste containers properly labeled (Chemical components)

Emergency Response

  • Eye wash stations are checked weekly; clean, accesible, working?

  • Extinguishers are checked monthly; charged and operable?

  • Extinguishers are easily accessible and hanging with proper signage

  • Exits are marked and illuminated corretly?

  • Non exit doors are marked "NOT AN EXIT"

  • Exits doors and aisles are clear for egress in case of emergency?

  • Are the fire alarm horns properly installed and readily accessible in the event of an emergency situation?

  • First Aid kits are ready for use? First Aid contact list posted?

Powered Industrial Equipment

  • Forklift operators are wearing seatbelts?

  • Hoist safety latches intact and not bent?

  • Employees do not pass underneath loads of forklifts OR cranes?

  • Hoist straps have visible labels, no tears, snags, cuts or broken stitching?

  • Fire extinguisher on lift(s) inspected monthly?

  • Crane daily inspection completed?

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Employees are wearing required hearing protection?

  • Employees are wearing safety glasses; side shields?

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stored properly?

  • Respiratory Protection is worn in areas where required?

Electrical

  • Electrical plugs have grounding prongs? (fans, equipment, etc.)

  • Electrical componants are not near water unless GFCI is utilized?

  • Power strip are not overloaded?

  • Electrical panels have adequate clearance (36") and are closed?

  • Junction boxes are sealed/closed with no exposed wires?

  • Materials and containers are grounded near flammable contents?

  • Energized parts, circuits and equipment guarded against accidental contact?

Fire Prevention and Protection

  • Flammable liquids stored in approved safety cans?

  • Flammable liquid containers kept closed when not in use?

  • Flammable liquids of 10 gallons or more stored in flammable storage cabinet?

  • Flammable liquid drums grounded and bonded?

  • Oily/greasy rags placed in proper self-closing oily rag containers or bags?

  • Sprinkler heads clean and unobstructed within 18" from sprinkler?
