Switch Off Procedures

  • Do you check lights are turned off in unused areas? I.e. Store rooms

  • Do you ensure external lights are switched off during the day where they are not required for safety?

  • Do you turn off items of electrical equipment when they are not in use?

  • Do you make sure fridges and freezers are turned off when they are not in use?

Heating Controls

  • Have you made sure radiators/heaters are free from obstructions?

  • Do heaters have working timers and heating controls?

  • Are they set to switch off? I.e. At night when the room is unoccupied.

  • Are the thermostats set to appropriate levels? Just by turning them down by 1 degree you can save substantial amounts.

  • Are plug in heaters in rooms that also have working wall mounted heaters?

  • Are doors and windows kept closed when the heating/air conditioning is on?

Maintenance

  • Do you know the procedure for reporting faults?

Waste

  • Did you know that all stations recycle their waste?

  • All stations have dry mixed recycling with larger stations also having general waste bins

  • Have you taken steps to reduce the use of paper?

  • Are your colleagues aware of the recycling facilities and understand what materials can be recycled?

  • Is hazardous waste (I.e. Electrical waste) segregated from non-hazardous waste for separate collections?

Water

  • If you use a kettle would you only boil the amount of water that's needed?

  • Are all taps drip free?

  • Do you conduct regular checks for water leaks?

  • Are water leaks quickly repaired?

Awareness

  • Are colleagues aware of the steps that they can take to reduce energy and waste consumption?

  • Please detail if there are any local energy saving initiatives that you believe are working.

  • Please detail any energy saving devices or lighting that are on site.

  • Is there a member of staff responsible for energy use on site? If not do you know who your local environment champion is?
