Management and Documentation.

  • Is the movement of Workers and Visitors coming on to and leaving site being adequately recorded and managed?

  • Are all Risk Assessments & Methods Statements in place, understood & Signed and adequate for the work activities being carried out?

  • Is there evidence of a Construction Phase Plan on site?

  • Are all emergency procedures understood and posted?

Welfare and Sanitation

  • Are there adequate welfare facilities in place for sanitary requirements? e.g Toilets and Washing facilities?

  • Are there adequate welfare facilities in place for welfare requirements? e.g Eating and Drinking Facilities away from the work area?

  • Is there a fully stocked First Aid Kit provided?

  • Are there trained First-Aider(s) on site? Are they known?

  • Are there adequate arrangement for smoking?

Project Management

  • Is leadership visible?

  • Are operatives knowledgeable about what is expected of them? e.g mandatory PPE, SWP etc?

  • Have all operatives and sub-contractors on site attended the site specific safety induction?

Access and Egress - Traffic Management

  • Is the site easily accessible?

  • Is segregation between plant and personnel activity adequate?

  • Is the site compound easily accessed by workers with appropriate crossing points?

  • Is there adequate parking spaces for vehicles?

  • Are controls put in place to prevent unauthorised access?

Housekeeping

  • Are working areas tidy and free from waste products?

  • Is there sufficient lighting for the working area?

  • Is there adequate waste management and removal?

  • Are the conditions of the working area in a safe way? e.g floor, ceilings , door ways.

Tools & Equipment

  • Are pre-use inspections being carried out by operatives?

  • Are all tests and inspection regimes up-to-date and evident?

  • Have all operatives been fully trained in the use of the equipment required?

  • Are all tools fit for purpose and in good condition?

Interface with public

  • Have members of the public had appropriate consultation of the works being carried out?

  • Are the working activities adequately segregated from the public?

  • Are there trained watch/banks men present?

  • Are the appropriate danger signs shown?

  • Is there adequate site security in place for all hours?

Services and Utilities

  • Have all overhead lines been identified and protected?

  • Have all services within the working area been identified and isolated?

  • Are all operatives aware of the location of the services?

Part 2

Fire Safety

  • Has a fire risk assessment been carried out ?

  • Is there evidence of a muster plan and designated muster points?

  • Are there suitable fire extinguishers provided?

  • Is there clear access and egress for all escape routes?

  • Is there means of raising alarm?

Working at Height

  • Has the Working at Height hierarchy been considered?

  • Has all access equipment been inspected? e.g ladders , podiums.

  • Are all operatives fully trained on working at height and the use of the equipment?

  • is the right equipment being used for the job?

Manual Handling

  • Has the manual handling hierarchy been considered?

  • Have all operatives been trained in manual handling?

  • Is there evidence that TILE is been taken in to consideration before committing to the lift?

  • Are handling aids and equipment being used correctly? Are they well maintained?

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Are signs in place to make operatives and Visitors aware of the site PPE requirements?

  • Are all operatives complying with the mandatory site PPE?

  • Is all PPE in good condition?

  • If additional PPE is required, is it being used properly and in accordance to the RAMS?

Storage of Materials

  • Is there safe access to the materials?

  • Are materials appropriately stored for there type?

  • Are hazardous materials, clearly identified, stored safely and securely in accordance to their data sheet?

  • Are appropriate security arrangements in place? e.g locking, emergency procedures.

Environment

  • Are adequate waste controls and segregation in place?

  • Are controls in place for potential air pollution? e.g dust and other materials.

  • Is there a risk of discharges to water courses, drainage systems or onto land?

  • If so, what controls have been put in place?
