  • Check that a minimum 3 metre boundary perimeter is surrounding the greenwaste site to allow vehicle access. Does it meet requirements?

TYRE AREA

  • Is there any sign of weeds in the tyre area/materials?

  • Is there evidence of pest or vermin activity?

  • Is there any sign of impact on the surrounding environment?

  • Is there any signs of erosion and sedimentation in the tyre stockpile or surrounding area?

  • Are tyre stockpiles stored within a bund or cell?

  • Is each cell placed against a quarry face?

  • Is each bund constructed or rock and clean fill and are sufficient of strength to contain the tyres within the cell?

TYRE AREA STOCKPILE DIMENSIONS

  • Is each outer bund wall a minimum of 3 metres wide at the base and battered to a minimum height of 2.5 metres?

  • Does each bunded area or cell exceed an area of 50 metres long by 30 metres wide?

  • Does the height of the tyre stockpile within each cell exceed the limit of 2 metres?

  • Is each cell covered by at least 3 metres of soil or clean fill?

  • Are edges of piles at least 3 metres from a perimeter clear of debris or vegetation to allow vehicle access?

GENERAL SITE

  • Are berms (road edgings) adequate for work undertaken?

PUBLIC PROTECTION

  • Is traffic control equipment working (check)?

  • Are fencing, barricades or barriers fit for purpose and in place?

GENERAL HAZARDS

  • Are Safety Data Sheets (SDS) available for dangerous goods used in the work area?

  • Are pest harbourage areas removed (i.e. rubbish / cardboard boxes)?

  • Have bait stations been checked?

MANUAL HANDLING

  • Safe work procedures in place and followed?

  • Are there any changes to manual handling that require a risk assessment to be completed?

PERSONAL PROTECTION

  • Are workers wearing required PPE?

  • Safety glasses / gloves / sunscreen available for workers?

  • Are Incident Notification forms available (use for Hazard, Near Miss, Environmental, Injury, Property Damage, General Report, Customer Feedback)?

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

  • Are fire extinguishers / blankets available, identified, tested and with clear access?

  • Is emergency response information displayed?

  • Is first aid / warden information current and displayed?

  • Is a first aid kit available and stocked with in-date items?
