Toolbox Talk (Working at Height 'Safety Bar')

  • After a recent inspection by the HSE concerns have been raised over the effectiveness of the edge protection when working in the back of TLV vans. In response to the HSE'S concerns Chivas Brothers Limited have opted to use lightweight 'Safety Bars' as a short term solution until a more robust solution is decided on.

  • The safety bar is lightweight and easy to use, simply lift the handle and extend the bar, to lock it close the handle and when finished with press the release button on the side to retract the bar.

  • The safety bar should be fitted approximately 600mm behind and in line with the existing bar at a height between 1050mm - 1100mm. With the safety bar fitted approximately 600mm away from the leading edge, full control of casks while loading and unloading can be maintained.

  • The safety bar should be used in conjunction with exsisting safety bars to prevent workers approaching to close to the leading edge. The safety bar should only be extended when inside the van and secured into position as detailed above. Care should be taken to not use excessive force as this may cause damage to the walls of the van.
