  • Verification of approved source for sub-base material (confirmation non-frost susceptibility)

  • Bulk sample testing of sub-base material As required 1/200t min 3 per site

  • Check depth of sub-base

  • Inspection of edgings, including bed/backing and line and level (ensure line of edgings are dropped at vehicular crossings to prevent excessive gradients on footways)

  • Verification of correct concrete type

  • Verification of edgings from approved source and correct type

  • Check for correct crossfalls on footways

  • Check for dropped kerbs and tactile crossing points at all junctions, ensure dropped channel kerbs are to be flush with finished surface NOT 25mm UPSTAND

  • Verification of approved material source and supply for binder course and surface courses

  • Ensure sufficient depth is allowed following the laying of binder course to allow for 25mm of surface course

  • Check location of street lighting and sign locations against approved drawing

  • Cores to separately assess thickness, compaction and bond of binder and surface course layers As required by Engineer

  • Trees and Pits Installed to Approved Detail

FOOTWAYS AND EDGING

  • Verification of all approved material sources and supply

  • Trial holes to determine material thicknesses, depth and sub-base compaction

  • Cores to determine depth, compaction and bond of binder and surface course layers

Excavation of Tree Pits to Satisfaction of Engineer

  • Correct Tree Pit to specification

BLOCK PAVED AREAS

  • Texture depth testing for HRA or Thin Surfacing. As required by Engineer

  • Cores to assess thickness compaction and bond of all bound layers. As required by Engineer 1/paver lane/ 100m min 3 per site

  • Road Markings (Check layout and dimensions)

  • Inspect completed surface regularity (check for drainage problems)

CARRIAGEWAY SURFACE COURSE

Retrospective – Testing/Inspections

  • Verification of approved material source and supply (check correct binder penetration, PSV requirements and chipping source for HRA)

  • Cores to assess thickness compaction and bond of all bound layers

  • Texture depth testing for HRA or Thin Surfacing

  • White line testing

PRE-MAINTENANCE PERIOD INSPECTION

Inspection

  • Road and Footway adequately swept/cleaned

  • Overall condition of all surfaces, ensuring there are no outstanding defects, temporary reinstatements or excavations

  • Any damage to kerbs channels blocks or edgings

  • Any weed growth to be treated

  • Gullies and drainage systems cleansed

  • Final highway drainage CCTV survey by certified company

  • Planted/grassed areas prepared, mown and edged back

  • Service margins marked in accordance with specification – no encroachment into service margins

  • Signs and road markings correctly in place

  • Lighting columns and signs within area to be adopted as highway

  • Visibility splays established

  • Any obvious other defects

  • As built level surveys of drainage infrastructure and carriageways with submission of as built drawings

  • Ensure foul and surface water drainage systems are certified to enter their maintenance period by the relevant water authority

  • Easements are clear of any encroachments

PRE-ADOPTION INSPECTION

The following are areas for inspection:

  • Road and footways adequately swept/cleaned

  • Planted/grassed areas prepared, mown and edged back

  • Service margins marked in accordance with specification – no encroachment into service margins

  • Any obvious other defects

  • Any outstanding issue identified at critical Stage 9 pre maintenance inspection

  • CDM information to be provided (to include Health and Safety file)

  • Obtain copies of the appropriate foul and surface water drainage testing certificates

  • Trees / Planting suitably established
