Notify all employees affected by the LOTO procedure and that are working in the area. Walk down the entire system to inspect for energy locations, shut down switches, and potential energy sources.

De-energize all equipment and systems. Always turn all switches to the OFF position, close control valves, disable energy sources, and use normal shutdown procedures.

Visually inspect that all energy sources are isolated.

Use only the lock and tags that are issued for each specific employee.

Release all places where stored energy could be located. Discharge capacitors, block or release springs, block elevated parts, relieve system pressure, drain fluids, vent gases, and chock rotating wheels.

Visually inspect the area for barricade tape and a sign notifying employees of the hazards.

Inspect that the correct tools are being used.

Verify that the system is de-energized.

Notify all affected employees before release from LOTO.
