6.1 – Examine “District or Route Plans” for Unwanted Contacts to Mains and Pipelines

  • Have plans been examined for possible locations of unwanted contacts to mains and pipelines?

6.2 – Identify Test Point Locations

  • Have test point locations been identified for connection of transmitter?

6.3 – Connect Transmitter Output between Pipe and Remote Earth Stake

  • Has the transmitter been connected and set correctly?

6.4 – Assemble Receiver and Plug in Headphones

  • Has the receiver meter been adjusted for optimum sensitivity in the headphones?

6.5 – Search for a Sudden Signal Fall or Change in Signal Direction

  • Was the signal monitored for any unexpected changes?

6.6 – Is this a branch in the main?

  • If a drop in signal was detected, have the plans been checked for a possible branch in the main?

6.7 – Carry Out Search Procedure on Both Mains

  • If a branch was identified, has the test been performed on both mains?

6.8 – Is there a gas service take-off at this point?

  • If a drop in signal is detected, has a gas service been identified?

6.9 – Is the customer’s gas meter operational?

  • If checked, was the customer’s gas meter insulators operating correctly?

6.10 – Is another pipeline operator or service provider involved?

  • Has the possibility of another pipeline operator or service provider being present been investigated?

6.11 – Determine Details of Structure Carrying Signal Loss

  • If necessary, have the other operators or service providers been contacted?

6.12 – Report Located Fault to Supervisor for Further Action

  • Have the findings been reported to the Supervisor?

6.13 - Finish

  • Has the site been packed up and made safe?
