• Are the profiles and dimensions as nominated on the Drawings

 • Have the subgrade, subbase and base layers supporting kerb and gutter been compacted to the standard specified for the adjacent pavement.

 • On completion of kerb, gutter and adjacent pavement the gutter lip must not be higher than, nor more than 10 mm lower than, the adjoining pavement surface at any point.

 • Unless shown otherwise on the Drawings, provide a steel float finish to gutter inverts and faces of kerbs.

 • Where directed by the Principal, provide a broomed finish to the tops of kerbs.

 • Have expansion joints been provided in kerbs and gutters alongside flexible pavements at
all locations where kerbs and gutters abut structures including drainage pits, retaining walls and
bridges. Fill these expansion joints with a preformed joint filler complying with RMS 3204.
• Kerb and gutter alongside flexible pavement may be constructed in fixed forms or by extrusion or slip forming.

4 KERB AND GUTTER WITH RIGID PAVEMENT

 • Kerb and gutter alongside the base and tied to the base : Is the longitudinal joint continuous over the full length without steps or offsets and must not deviate from a 3 m straight-edge by more than 20 mm after due allowance for planned curvature.

 • The longitudinal joint must be corrugated and tied as shown on the Drawings and as specified for the base.

 • Kerb and gutter alongside, but not tied to, the base. Seal the longitudinal joint as shown on the Drawings.

 • Are kerbs placed on top of a concrete base provided with ties as shown on the Drawings.

 • Where the kerb and gutter is to be placed alongside the base, extend the sealant down the full vertical face of transverse base joints and any underlying crack which exceeds 1 mm in width.

 • Where kerbs are placed on top of the concrete base, align each joint in the kerb with the underlying base joint.

 • Where kerb and gutter is placed alongside the base joints in the kerb and gutter must intersect at the common longitudinal joint (tolerance 15 mm) and their alignment must be:

 • (a) in kerb and gutter which is placed integrally with the base, align joints with those in the base; otherwise
