  • Standard: NAM CARs154.2.3, WAM MOE 2.7, 6

  • Purpose: To ensure Housekeeping and Workshop safety is maintained up to standard

  • Scope: Specific workshop or hangar work area

1 Safety

  • 1.1 Is the work environment clean and safe?

  • 1.2 Are all personnel alert to any undesirable practices?
    (Use of PPE, risky behavior, smoking in work area, etc.)

  • 1.3 Are emergency numbers displayed in prominent places and is it kept up to date?

    At least the following numbers must be shown:
    Ambulance
    Fire Brigade
    Police

  • 1.4 Is there a fire extinguisher in each work area and is it servicable?

  • 1.5 Is there a First Aid Kit in each work area and is it up to date?

  • 1.6 Are no bulk containers (5L or more) of hazardous chemicals stored on/in tool trolleys?

  • 1.6.1 Are containers with hazardous chemicals clearly marked with the following:

    Name of Contents e.g Benzine, MEK etc.
    Toxic and Fire Hazard Labels
    Storage Expiry Date (If shelf life limit is applicable)

  • 1.6.2. Are the containers kept in a steel cupboard or fire proof area normal after hours.

2 Housekeeping

  • 2.1 Is all staff responsible for cleanliness and order in the maintenance facility?
    (Is staff actively keeping work areas clean?)

  • 2.2 Is all personnel alert to any undesirable practices?
    (Spillages, clean work area, overspray etc.)

  • 2.3 Is the workplace kept clean at all times?

  • 2.4 Are drip trays cleaned after every use and stowed in the washbay?

  • 2.5 Is the refuse containers used for refuse?

3 Documentation & Manuals

  • 3.1 Is there a copy of the MOE available?

  • 3.1.1 Is the MOE up to date?

  • 3.2 Are the relevant manuals available for the type of work that is performed in this work area.?
