Has a risk assessment and method statement been prepared

Check with your plastering contractor if he intends to use ready mixed mortar for render work

check that all builders work is complete

Check that protection has been fitted to finished items i..e. windows, doors and frames etc.

Provide a sample for approval

Check the specification for mix strength requirements and surface finish

Check the wall surface to be rendered does offer a good key

Agree positions of control joints

Check that the contractor has materials available for curing render work

Check that the contractor does not intend to use a retarding agent in the mortar mix

If render is to be site mixed discuss the requirements of BS 4887 Part 1 with the subcontractor

Check backing coat application as work proceeds

Check that the areas of wall to be rendered are not saturated with surface water

Check that sufficient time is allowed for backing coat to dry

Check the method the subcontractor uses to control the thickness of the render

Check the period of time allowed between 1st coat and final coat

Carry out a final check of all rendered surface prior to the removal of any scaffolding

Ensure that the subcontractor removes all temporary protection

Check that the work areas are left clean
